What is “the Cove”? 《海豚灣》是什麼？
“The Cove”, the Oscar Winner for Best Feature Documentary in 2010, is a film that exposes the annual dolphin slaughter in Japan and related issues on keeping dolphins in captivity.
揭露日本獵殺海豚及人工馴養海豚問題的紀錄片《海豚灣》，於2010年贏得奧斯卡金像獎最佳紀錄長片，令世界各地更多人士留意到日本每年屠殺海豚的行為。
Synopsis: In the 1960's, Richard O'Barry was the world’s leading authority on dolphin training, working on the set of the popular television program Flipper. Day in and day out, O'Barry kept the dolphins working and television audiences smiling. But one day, that all came to a tragic end. THE COVE, directed by Louie Psihoyos, tells the amazing true story of how Psihoyos, O'Barry and an elite team of activists, filmmakers and freedivers embarked on a covert mission to penetrate a hidden cove in Japan, shining light on a dark and deadly secret. 故事大綱︰六十年代，李察歐巴瑞(Richard O’Barry)是世界頂尖的權威海豚訓練員，曾經培訓當時美國流行的電視劇集《Flipper》中五隻可愛的海豚，令愈來愈多人鍾愛這種友善聰明的動物。直至《Flipper》中海豚的死亡，突然讓他意識到馴養海豚為人類提供歡樂，原是一種殘酷的行為。李察後來聯同《海豚灣》導演路易皮斯賀沃斯(Louie Psihoyos)及一群保育人士組成「特種部隊」，不惜冒著被殺或被捕的危險，突破官方防線，潛入日本太地町海豚灣，偷拍當地漁民屠殺海豚的暴行，希望讓全世界，包括日本市民，知道這個隱藏多年的驚人真相。這隊拍攝團隊為避開日本漁民的阻撓，利用最先進的科技、隱藏在假岩石裡的攝影機及收音麥克風，甚至深夜摸黑拍攝，苦戰三年，方完成這部像實境探險故事的實錄，暴露日本漁民屠殺海豚以謀取暴利的劣行。《海豚灣》以非一般的手法描述的，也許只是人類與大自然之間的矛盾的冰山一角，但已足夠為觀眾帶來反思。(有關更多《海豚灣》的資料，請瀏覽其官方網頁及電影預告片)

“The Cove” was shown in Hong Kong theatres (Palace IFC and Broadway Cinematheque) in November and December 2010. Here is the Official Facebook Group with details of “The Cove” screenings in HK.

Why do we encourage everyone to watch “The Cove”?
為何我們極力向香港公眾推介《海豚灣》？
“The Cove” is a great educational film that exposes many different issues related to our beloved dolphins and the general state of our marine environment. The film exposes the annual dolphin slaughter in Taiji, Japan, and how the slaughter is related to keeping dolphins in captivity. Moreover, “The Cove” educates us about how dolphins simply do not belong in captivity, and we are all responsible for the annual dolphin slaughter if we continue to watch dolphin shows in aquariums. The film also challenges the audience with a variety of thought provoking issues that involve many different aspects such as animal welfare, nature conservation, socio-economics, public health, culture and international politics. The HK Dolphin Conservation Society has produced an educational booklet (for free download) to explain the conservation messages behind the film, in order to provide the Hong Kong public with a better understanding of the various issues discussed in “The Cove”.
《海豚灣》是一部極具教育意義的影片，因它為觀眾帶來牽涉海豚及海洋生態裡不同範疇的問題。影片中除揭露日本太地町每年屠殺海豚的行為，及人工馴養海豚與其千絲萬縷的關係外，亦教導觀眾為何海豚不應被捕捉及囚禁作商業用途。當我們到水族館觀賞海豚表演時，其實亦間接助長每年海豚繼續被屠殺的行為。《海豚灣》亦為觀眾帶來一連串問題讓我們作深入思考，當中包括動物權益、自然保育、社會經濟、社會健康、文化及國際政治等問題。香港海豚保育學會亦為這套影片製作一本教育小冊子(可供免費下載)，為公眾詳細分析《海豚灣》所帶出的保育訊息，及我們如何參與阻止《海豚灣》的悲劇繼續發生。
